The Castellas hill site at Murviel-lès-Montpellier was the location of an important ancient settlement from the late iron age up to the 2nd century BC. The settlement comprised a high town and a low town surrounded by nearly 2 km of monumental walls, the north section of which can still be seen. Different ruins have been uncovered by a series of digs and these are open to the public. These include surrounding walls, a tower, doors, a monumental square, dwellings and artisans’ premises.
