Near Montpellier, in the village of Crès, is the atypical Saharan museum. Different for its architecture in the style of the shores of the Sahara, painted in the colors of the desert. Exotic for being the only museum in Europe dedicated to the history and peoples of the Sahara.
On 2 levels, visitors will discover the entire Saharan universe: on one of them, at the time of the French presence, and on the other, the daily life of the nomads, along with many magnificent objects and jewels.
The Sahara constitutes a tangible archive on the creation of planet Earth. The museum dedicates several of its showcases to these natural treasures. Further on in the tour, there is a showcase dedicated to the explorer Théodore Monod.
An element that is part of the visit is the recreated horse-drawn carriage of the Garamantes.
Finally, there are showcases dedicated to the work of the renowned historian Henri-Jean Hugo and to the fantastic epic of the Berliet Ténéré Tchad mission.
