The architectural history of the Hôtel de Varennes, a mediaeval private mansion in Montpellier, has been enhanced by a museum-type restoration where traces of the changes made in the 18th century have been retained on the updated mediaeval structures.
The Gothic halls on the ground floor are used as meeting rooms (Salle Pétrarque) and house the Université du Tiers Temps.
On the first floor is the Musée du Vieux Montpellier (Museum of Old Montpellier) and the Musée Fougau.
