On August 25th, it will be the turn of the Paralympic flame to pass through Montpellier after the Olympic flame on May 13th.
As part of its worldwide journey, this sacred flame will light up the streets of Montpellier, bringing with it an atmosphere of celebration and contagious enthusiasm.
The city will be hosting the event at the end of the day, offering a festive, popular and free programme open to all, based on the values of sport and Olympism.
Where does the Paralympic flame pass through Montpellier?
The route has not yet been defined.
Olympic Games 2024, Montpellier hosts the sports delegations
Because of its reputation as a sporting city, Montpellier has been recognized as “Terre de jeux 2024,” allowing it to host French and international delegations (including teams from South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan) as a training base camp. The goal is to showcase the region’s strengths and special features.
Around 25 disciplines will be training here.
Several training facilities have been approved for the following disciplines:
Olympic swimming – Artistic swimming – Water polo – Handball – Basketball – Volleyball – Table tennis – Football – Rugby sevens – Athletics – Beach volleyball – BMX – Skateboarding – Judo – Fencing – Breaking – Paralympics

Montpellier, sport all year round
MHSC, MHB, MHR, MRC, BLMA …. There are plenty of top-level sports clubs for men and women!
For many years now, Montpellier has been the only French metropolis outside Paris to be present in the sporting elite of the main team sports (football, rugby, basketball, handball, etc., as well as ice hockey and baseball).
The town also hosts major sporting events every year, such as FISE, the Open Sud de France and the Beach Masters.
As well as one-off competitions such as the European Judo Championships in November 2023.

Montpellier, a land of sports and athletes
With its strong culture of extreme sports, Montpellier has been chosen to host the training site for the French BMX Freestyle team in preparation for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
A 9,000m2 skatepark with dirt track, pumptrack, BMX frestyle park and more is being built on the former Grammont site. Montpellier will have the largest site in Europe.
In addition, many local sportsmen and women are dreaming of the Paris Games, such as Kévin Meyer (Décathlon), Marion Torrent (football), Antony JeanJean (BMX), Valentin Porte (handball) and Nicolas le Goff (volleyball).

from 16 to 25 July: Chinese women’s BMX delegation at Montpellier’s ‘Ronan Pointeau’ international BMX skatepark
19 July to 1 August: return of the Australian athletics delegation to the Philippidès stadium
from 22 July to 31 July: return of the South African athletics delegation to the Philippidès stadium
from 25 to 31 July: South African wrestling delegation
23 July to 6 August: Ukrainian artistic swimming delegation at the Angelotti Olympic pool
9 August to 22 August: South African para-swimming delegation at the Antigone Olympic pool
16 August to 31 August: return of the New Zealand para-athletics delegation to the Philippidès stadium
from 12 August to 2 September: the Australian para-athletics delegation returns to the Philippidès stadium

The CREPS IN MONTPELLIER TRAINING BASE CAMP FOR THE 2024 OGs
The Montpellier CREPS is a training base camp for top-level athletes in a variety of sports. for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Montpellier CREPS is a base camp for athletes and international sports delegations.
The Montpellier CREPS is located in the Occitanie region, in the heart of Montpellier. The CREPS has a green area of almost 3 hectares, 15 minutes from the city centre and 30 minutes from the Mediterranean Sea. As a training base camp for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Montpellier CREPS offers athletes an ideal environment to prepare and train before the competitions.
The CREPS high-quality facilities will enable it to host several athletics delegations from South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, as well as the French judo, BMX, volleyball, triathlon, skateboarding, table tennis, sailing, dance and athletics teams, the Australian rugby sevens team and the Japanese volleyball team.
