It’s an 815km cycling route that runs through several French regions with the Sète peninsula, Port-Saint-Louis du Rhône and Lake Geneva at its tips.
A fantastic adventure awaits on a path designed to give you a smooth ride so you can soak up a variety of landscapes ranging from the Camargue beaches to the Alpine foothills.
Two of the stages are actually similar to the Mediterranean Route, another major bike path, and they take you near our beautiful city.
Sète marks the start or end of your adventure on the Via Rhôna. Head to the small seaside town of Palavas, where the paths winds between the sea and lagoons to introduce you to the Mediterranean’s signature flora and fauna.
There are lots of places to stop along the way, including Frontignan for its famous muscat, or Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone for a highly-recommended trip to the cathedral!
The second stage near Montpellier starts in Palavas-Les-Flots and ends outside the medieval town of Aigues Mortes. The bike path runs over the lido between Étang de l’Or (Pérols Lagoon) and the Mediterranean Sea to the “pyramids” in La Grande Motte.
The path then leads to the famous fishing port of Le Grau du Roi and hooks up with the Rhône Canal to take you to the last stop on your bike path: Aigues Mortes! This adventure is all about the sea and Camargue so don’t forget your swimsuit and camera!
