Getting there

Festival of ancient music in Maguelone What is it ?

Every year, the Festival de Maguelone returns to enchant late spring with four precious events, held in the singular cathedral of the sands, lost behind its ganivelle-edged dunes and lulled by the distant presence of the sea.

A lover of all kinds of heritage, passionate about the Montpellier region and quick to build bridges between the arts, the festival has multiplied the number of off-the-beaten-track concerts, without ever losing sight of its primary mission: to bring together the stones and people of the beauty dreamt of centuries ago.

Programme 2025:

To mark the 300th anniversary of Antonio Vivaldi’s ‘Four Seasons’, the 42nd edition of the Festival de Musique Ancienne à Maguelone will honour Italy, the birthplace of the Baroque. It will celebrate the aesthetics of early music with the ensembles Gli Incogniti, The Banshies, the duo Hanna Salzenstein and Thibault Roussel, and the closing concert by Le Poème Harmonique, with Vincent Dumestre and mezzo-soprano Isabelle Druet.

Focus on... Saint-Pierre de Maguelone cathedral

In a leafy setting in the centre of the peninsula, the Saint-Pierre de Maguelone cathedral is a unique place where history meets tradition.
This fortified church, a former Romanesque bishop’s palace, received popes and bishops in the Middle Ages.

The town has a number of renowned wineries offering a range of wines and muscats that regularly win awards.
